    2013 Award Application Process

    2013 GRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN SEXUALITY STUDIES

    The Program in Sexuality Studies will award a Graduate Research Fellowship for the Summer of 2013 to graduate students pursuing mentored research projects on any aspect of human sexuality. All UNC graduate students currently enrolled and in good academic standing are welcome to apply. Successful applicants will receive up to $1,000 for research-related expenses, including supplies and travel.

    Applicants should submit:

    1. A brief description (250–500 words) of the proposed research project. This statement should indicate the topic, research strategy and methods, the anticipated scholarly contributions of the project, and the portion of the project to be completed with the support of this fellowship.

    2. An indication of how the fellowship support would be used (detailed budgets are welcome but not necessary).

    3. A letter of support from a faculty member familiar with the applicant's research.

    4. If the research involves human subjects, evidence of IRB approval.

    The research must be completed within one year or by the time the student graduates, whichever comes first.

    2013 PRIZE FOR BEST UNDERGRADUATE WORK IN SEXUALITY STUDIES

    The Program in Sexuality Studies will award a prize for the best undergraduate work undertaken during the last academic year in the area of Sexuality Studies. The winner will be awarded a cash prize made possible by a generous gift from a private donor. The competition is open to all years and majors; theses, class papers, visual media and creative writing projects are all welcome. Work completed at UNC during the Spring 2012, Fall 2012, or Spring 2013 semesters is eligible.

    Work may be nominated by an instructor, and students are welcome to submit their own work themselves. Visual projects should be accompanied by a written commentary.

    The winner will be announced by May 5, 2013.

    2013 Pine Tree Summer Fellowships

    The Program in Sexuality Studies expects to be able to offer one or more Pine Tree Summer Undergraduate Fellowships in LGBTQ Studies to support participation in a summer internship or other academically enriching project.

    This program is open to all currently enrolled undergraduates (except graduating seniors) who are need-eligible as determined by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

    1. Download the application form HERE.

    2. Order a copy of your official transcript to be sent to the Program in Sexuality Studies, CB #3195, UNC Campus.

    3. Ask your faculty adviser to submit a letter of recommendation either by email to sexuality@unc.edu or by campus mail to CB #3195 by Friday, 19 April 2013.

    4. If this is an internship, a provide statement from the institution providing the opportunity.

    5. Statement of purpose (no longer than two pages, double-spaced, 12-point font).

    Please email items 4 and 5 with the completed application form to sexuality@unc.edu. All materials must be received by Friday, 19 April 2013. Awards will be announced 5 May 2013.
