Call for Proposals: Williamson Course Development Grant, Program in Sexuality Studies (Submission Deadline May 24th 2017 at 11pm)
The Program in Sexuality Studies at UNC-CH announces the availability of one course development grant in the amount of $3,500.00 from its Williamson Fund for Course Development. Recipient will have a year to use the funds (between July 1, 2017 and July 1, 2018). Proposals to develop new courses on any sexuality topics, including but not limited to LGBTQ people and topics, are eligible for consideration.
All tenured and tenure-track UNC-CH faculty are eligible, as are Lecturers on continuing appointments.
Courses developed with this grant must be initially offered, at latest, during the Fall Semester of 2018. Recipients must agree to offer the course no more than once (initially) as a section of a “Special Topics” rubric or any other such general rubric. For all subsequent offerings, the course must have been assigned its own, new number and corresponding, sexuality-related title–and must have appeared as such in departmental and university course listings.
Any type of course at any level is eligible, including large classes and First Year Seminars. Applicants who agree and arrange to offer the course at least three times in the five years after receiving this grant, meaning before the end of the 2021-2022 academic year, will receive priority consideration.
Direct any questions about the application process directly to the Program Director (GerShun Avilez). To apply, please send all of the following via email to sexuality@unc.edu before May 24th 2017 at 11pm:
- A tentative, preliminary course plan that includes the rationale for the class and a breakdown of topics for the semester (including at least some of the materials to be assigned to students)
- Your CV
3. A statement from the Chair of your department, to be emailed directly to sexuality@unc.edu, agreeing to the initial offering of the course, specifying the semester of that initial offering as well as the course name and number to be used for that initial offering, and agreeing to offer the class at least two additional times under with a new number and corresponding title by the end of the 2020-2021 academic year. (If two additional offerings might not be possible,Chairs should please specify what subsequent offering schedule will be possible after the initial offering of the newly developed course.)
